Crisis Resources for Californians

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

However, please keep in mind that police officers are not always trained to handle mental health situations and may not provide the support you need. This can also pose risks, especially for people from marginalized communities, such as People of Color, neurodivergent individuals, and people with disabilities.

If you need to call the police, consider asking trusted community leaders, neighbors, friends, or family to be present for added support.

It’s also important to know that some crisis lines may contact the police if you talk about suicide. If this worries you, ask about their reporting policies before sharing details.

For more information of why this is important and where I got this language from, please visit Inclusive Therapists.
